Amidst threats and challenges of growing population in Pangasinan province, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) region I recently convened its partner local population officers which shall take an active role in ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of family planning (FP) information and services especially among the marginalized and underserved population.
The convergence of the Provincial Population Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office and Local Government Units, spearheaded by POPCOM Regional Director Erma R. Yapit aims to intensify the implementation of the National Program on Population and Family Planning (NPPFP) at the grassroots level.
Part of POPCOM’s continuing advocacy and to further strengthen and sustain the said initiative, family planning caravan, RPFP classes and “USAPAN” will be undertaken by different towns of Pangasinan province this October and November.
During the orientation on September 23, ARD Wilma E. Ulpindo has made a presentation of the overall roles and functions of BPVs/Ws in the NPPFP. She encouraged the Population Officers to bring family planning services and information more closer to the people, ensuring that quality supplies or commodities are accessible through service providers at all possible access points.
Meanwhile, the participants underwent workshops to identify target numbers of Barangay Service Population Officers in their respective municipality who will be trained and help in the information and service delivery on family planning.
This opt move of POPCOM is in line with the national objective of promoting family planning towards the reduction of poverty incidence by 2022.
