POPCOM Executive Director Juan Antonio A. Perez III said recently in a statement that the senior citizens can help reach the country’s demographic dividend if they are well taken cared of.

Thus, in an effort to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to this special population group in the region, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM)-Region I together with the Local Government Unit of Balaoan, La Union through its Municipal Population Office, distributed basic essentials to the special population groups of Brgy. Almeida and Paraoir in Balaoan, La Union during their Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP) outreach program on May 28, 2020.

Mr. Franco G. Jubilo, POPCOM-Region I Administrative Officer V, emphasized that the outreach activity is due to the necessities of time and situation. “The outreach activity was conducted in Brgys. Almeida and Paraoir purposely to at least uplift the spirit and lives of intended beneficiaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The provision of basic essentials to 160 indigent senior citizens and persons with disabilities was selected based on the data result of the demographic vulnerabilities in the region provided by the Philippine Statistics Authority and POPCOM,” he added.

A total of 160 packs of basic essentials, Family Planning fans and brochures, and COVID-19 flyers were given to the beneficiaries. In addition, Family Planning posters and flip desk charts were also given to the rural health units of Almeida and Paraoir.
