Following the success of the San Carlos City Teen Center launching on April 24, 2019, the City Population Office (CPO) headed by Dr. Luisa F. Cayabyab inaugurated the Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning-Population and Development (RPFP-POPDEV) Building on August 15, 2022. Present to this ceremonial event were Hon. Mayor Julier “Ayoy” Resuello, Commission on Population and Development-I Regional Director Erma R. Yapit and her staff, Mr. Ellsworth G. Gonzales of the Provincial Population, Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (PPCLDO) and his staff, the City’s department heads, local line agencies, and other invited guests. Rev. Fr. Jeffrey S. Segovia led the blessing of the building.
“San Carlos City is in good hands,” Hon. Resuello emphasized as he acknowledged the collaborative efforts and strong support of his colleagues and partners in efficiently identifying and responding to the needs of their constituents. In his message, he further encouraged everyone to continuously work together in expounding the understanding and increasing the awareness of San Carlenians on family planning (FP) as an important strategy to empower families and communities.
In the 2020 Census of Population and Housing published by the Philippine Statistics Authority, City of San Carlos is the most populous city in the region with a total population of 205, 424 or at least 6% of the total population of the province of Pangasinan. With its large population, the establishment of the RPFP-POPDEV building creates a venue for the people to have better access to information and services related especially to their health, including reproductive health. The building also strengthens the relentless efforts enforced by the CPO in its conduct of various population-related initiatives such as RPFP sessions, Pre-Marriage Orientation and Counseling (PMOC) and Couples’ Trail; trainings/ symposia/ orientations among the adolescents and youth; POPDEV orientations/ workshops and capacity building; and livelihood initiatives to assist displaced workers during the pandemic. These projects have not only significantly helped the constituents over the years but have also made way for their recognition this year at the national level through the Kaunlarang Pantao Awards for their exemplary hard work.
The RPFP-POPDEV building is now open to public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays (Mondays to Fridays) for the provision of various RPFP services like counseling, consultation and availing of free commodities.
